It started with Reagan and Limbaugh. Then Gingrich and O’Reilly. Now we are onto the extremists Hannity and Carlson. All white males who feel threatened by diversity or color waging war using a bible and a cross. Thinking they are the divine providence of Americanism. Born to rule and bred to lead, with a smug insolence of anger and greed. Their hate of me and my diverse colleagues and students is disgusting and pretentious… It is hate of bias and contemptuousness based on nothing more than a false sense of arrogant righteousness…

Love thy neighbor less than thyself. Do terrible things unto others to keep them from doing unto you. Where did their families fail these leaders? their schools? their privilege? their religious teachers? What poisoned them to hate us so? Why can’t they recognize an opposing opinion or fact? What mental illness creates such anger and hate? Is there a therapy or drug than can be used to medicate?

…but there isn’t any decency. You wage war on the elderly, my aunt, mother, and millions of others you see. By crushing the people’s Social Security. Then you pounce and degrade our Veteran’s of wars who gave their all in service to thee. How is their medical care fraudulent and expensive when people like you placed them on our country’s defensive? What have the Gays, Lesbians, and Trans done to you, but spread rainbows, smiles, and definitions of love so broad? Is it the bible texts in Leviticus, 1st Timothy and Jude or did you believe a Christian Nationalist crowd? …where is the common decency?

Your pattern of executive violence is causing a rebellion for sure. It will only be remembered as something less than pure. *People are People was the first Depeche Mode song to chart in the United States of America. When I heard the song the first time as a sophomore in high school it resonated with me. It seems poignant to quote these words against the regime. The song is a bit trite and could be far stronger metaphorically, but it captures a moment in time in the 1980’s when Thatcher/Reaganism began this journey down a neoliberal rabbit hole that led to Brexit and now the American descent into fascism and isolationism on biases so weak in merit they defy explanation… How do men get to be so frightened of diversity? ….so it goes…
